Murúch, 6th Class Play

Posted by James Mernin.

Múinteoir Ben’s 6th class present “Murúch”. Recently staged at Coirm Gael Linn in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre in Carlow, it has wowed the critics. “Léiriú Foirfe / a perfect production” said the judges. Best of luck to all the poor unfortunate shipwrecked sailors and their drums at their next performance in Ring at the Waterford Schools Drama Festival.
The story follows a fisherman to the bottom of the sea where he is imprisoned with all the other shipwrecked sailors who are under the sea monster’s spell. How do they escape?

Merrow (from Irish Murúch, Middle Irish murdúchann or murdúchu) is a mermaid or merman in Irish folklore.
