Building Campaign
This page was formally archived on Friday, 9 June 2017 to commemorate the official opening of the new school building at Gaelscoil Philib Barún. The content herein is reflective of the journey that lead to that day and is being retained here for historical purposes.
Introduction
A school building is a result of an educational philosophy or programme. What do our prefabricated, uniform and undersized boxes placed on a scenic site overlooking the wonderful Tramore beach say about our educational philosophy?
Gaelscoil Philib Barún’s 27 year struggle for adequate accommodation has had its fair share of setbacks and minor triumphs. Our ambition is to deal with the issue finally and comprehensively by drawing up plans for a cost effective, innovative and attractive permanent structure on our site at Crobally Upper, Tramore. A building that the town will be proud to show its visitors as they approach the seaside resort. A building that will reflect a philosophy that values the education of its young and sees its Gaelscoil as a badge of diversity breathing life into the Irish language.
With political will we can stop the waste of scarce resources on inadequate rented facilities. Primary school building programmes have been historically underfunded. All-Irish primary schools have been at the bottom of the heap when it comes to giving new schools the green light for building. 60% of Gaelscoileanna are in temporary accommodation. We want to buck the trend, break the mould and take control away from the bungling bureaucrats. We want to build a school!!
Campaign Slogan
The official slogan of the building campaign is:
Scoil Bhuan do Ghaelscoil Philib Barún
