Retirement of Caitlín and Mary Dunphy
The school gathered on Friday, 30 September 2022, to mark the retirement of Múinteoir Caitlín and to pay tribute to Múinteoir Máire Uí Dhonncha. Both teachers have given long and loyal service, over many decades, to the school and its pupils.
All of the children held both teachers in the highest esteem and this was reflected in the song that Dara, our fifth-class teacher, composed for the occasion. The song was sung with great enthusiasm by all in the hall. The Parents’ Association and the Board of Management were represented at this special school assembly.
Many tributes were paid to Caitlín on the day by staff. Here is an excerpt from a speech by Múinteoir Daithí
Múinteoir Caitlín, who has taught in Gaelscoil Philib Barún since 1986, will retire at the end of September. Caitlín has been principal of the school in the past, has taught all class levels during her career and has been a special education teacher for the past 10 years. Caitlín’s fluency in Irish is unique in our school and she adds greatly to the richness of the language spoken in Gaelscoil Philib Barún. As a teacher she has always encouraged the potential in pupils under her care. In the words of Golda Meir. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny inner sparks of possibility, into flames of achievement!
We wish Caitlín every health and happiness in her retirement.
A Tribute to Máire
Múinteoir Máire has informed the school that she will not be returning to her work with the special education teachers in the school following Covid. For many years Múinteoir Máire has given her time and expertise in a voluntary capacity to the school, helping young readers with their word recognition skills and encouraging reading among the pupils. The school is very grateful to Máire for her contribution to our teaching and we wish her every best wish for the future.
