An Féar Gortach (The Hungry Grass)

An Féar Gortach (The Hungry Grass) is a short film produced by Sixth Class at Gaelscoil Philib Barún in Tramore, Ireland.

The film explores the theme of the Irish Famine 175 years ago and the story begins when Muireann (played by Molly Swift) walks through the hungry grass and is brought back to Tramore during the famine, where she meets Cáit (played by Róisín Ní hEithir) and her family.

Cáit is faced with challenges, such as unaffordable rent from her landlord and a failing potato crop, and she is left with two choices: stay and face the workhouse, or emigrate on the coffin ship to America. The film also features music composed and performed by Diarmuid de Bhál a former student of the Gaelscoil.

An Féar Gortach was written, directed and edited by Múinteoir Ben, with sound engineering by sixth class students. It will also be entered into the Féile Scoildrámaíochta competition later in 2022.

We are all very proud of this film and encourage everyone to watch, like and share it far and wide.
