These schools found that there were no adverse effects to English literacy scores. Gaelscoil Philib Barún however, like many other gaelscoileanna, does teach English for the designated period from Junior Infants. Gaelscoileanna can choose when they feel it is most beneficial to introduce the English curriculum. Many schools differ and research is still being gathered regarding the merits of different approaches. It is a decision now for each school community to make. The directive had denied that right.
